Exide Residential Cleanup, Department Of Toxic Substances Control

Investigation and remediation of lead-impacted soil, backfilling, and restoration of approx. 1,400 properties in the vicinity of the former Exide Facility. A lead recycling facility operated at the former Exide Facility from 1922 until March 2014. Exide shut down its operations because it could not meet new rules enacted by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Activities conducted at the former Exide Facility include battery breaking, smelting, refining lead, and storage, handling, and transportation of batteries, which may have contributed to contamination of offsite properties.

As technical manager in coordination efforts for site access,

permit preparation, consultant liaison between property owners and regulatory agency, designed excavation and confirmation soil and air sampling of impacted properties, implemented Best Management Practices (BMP) field operations, prepared reports and drawings showing the sample locations and analytical data tables, proposed excavation depths and restoration drawings and specifications, for final Letter of Completion (LOC) for DTSC approval.
